We supply Rustic grade boards on Signature and Premier single plank products these consist of A, B, C, D grades meaning lots of colour variation, knots, splits, rough patches etc. This is normal and does not subtract the quality of the wood flooring,

Wood is a natural product and colour and texture variations will be evident. It is a part of the overall characteristic wood finish and is not to be considered a flaw.

Prime A grade is available on our Chevron and Herringbone products,

please refer to our pricelist for full details.

Stains and oils tend to have unpredictable results when being applied to different woods and on different boards of the same oak species. Certain woods like Maple, beach, oak, merbau, birch and Pine do not take stains well and can result in some colour variation.

White tones are not recommended in high traffic areas such as Kitchens and hallways. if you decide to use these colours high maintenance will need to be applied. White floors can show a tendency to yellow under rugs over time.

If clients decided to change colour once colouring has been done, we reserve the right to charge for sanding back to bare wood again

Please remember that colour can fade / bleach and change colour due to UV light. High sunlight areas should be protected by black out UV blinds / curtains

When measuring a floor it is recommended to allow 5 to 10% extra for waste and off cuts. We would ask you to order to the nearest full box size.

Bespoke flooring is a special order item. Once the colouring/finishing process has started under no circumstances can any order or any part of any order be cancelled without full payment being due.

We suggest you use a professional floor fitter for installing the floor. Adhesive where it is being used should be applied according to manufacturer’s recommendations. Our recommended adhesive manufacturer is STAUF UK

It is the responsibility of the installer and the end customer to inspect boards prior to installation and select the boards to cater for variation in the colour and grain. The seller accepts no responsibility for any costs of labour or product once fitted. Before fitting all sub-floors must be checked for moisture to ensure they are dry.

After fitting the floor should be ready for use although we suggest leaving for over seven days before wet mopping. Take care when fitting not to walk in dirt or building dust as this can damage the surface. To prevent direct damage to the floor try to keep it covered when building work is being carried out.

A top coat is not normally necessary, however once the floor has been installed by a contractor and damage results, depending on the nature of the problem we suggest using a soap to clean the floor and possibly using a maintenance oil.

Regular maintenance of the floor can be done by using the recommended soaping and maintenance programme.

Scratches and stains or other damage caused after fitting are not covered in any warranty. Neither are problems caused by factors outside the control of the seller such as those listed below. This list is not exclusive

  • Fire
  • Water
  • Moisture
  • Excessive heat
  • Use of aggressive cleaning products
  • High heel shoes
  • Sand or grit

Protecting the floor – maintenance

Good practices are necessary to protect your floor

  • The relative humidity of the rooms should be between 40-65% to prevent cracking, splitting bowing etc.
  • Do not let spills, water, wine etc. to stand on the floor for any length of time. Clean up spills and water straight away.
  • Use recommended cleaning methods only. Do not use bleach, wipes, aggressive cleaners or alkaline cleaners
  • Use felt floor protectors on chairs and other items of furniture
  • Do not drag furniture across the floor
  • Avoid walking on the wooden floor with high heel shoes.
  • Do not walk on the floor with footwear that has dirt, stones or grit on the sole.
  • Protect the floor from direct sunlight
  • Rugs should be removed periodically to alloy the floor to be exposed to UV
  • If using masking tape use as low adhesive type and test an area first before doing a large area.

Underfloor heating

Follow the instructions of the screed and adhesive manufacturer for priming, and application.

General notes – engineered wood floors are suitable for underfloor heating and the heating system must deliver 80 W/m2 evenly distributed and the surface temperature must not under any circumstances exceed 25C. In modern houses the relative humidity can fall and it will be necessary to use humidifiers to keep the air between 40-65%.

After installing the heating system and the wood floor carefully follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for controlled and staged heating of the room. Under no circumstances should the surface of the floor exceed 25C and this applies under covered areas such as rugs.
